Sprachliche Kommunikation ist ein wichtiger und vielseitiger menschlicher Interaktionsmechanismus. Sie ermöglicht den Austausch von Informationen, Wissen und Gedanken, dient aber auch der Koordination der sozialen Beziehung der Gesprächspartner. Sie findet in der Regel in Form von koordinierten Dialogen mit koverbalem Verhalten statt, wie sie auch zunehmend für die Mensch-Maschine- bzw. Mensch-Roboter-Interaktion in den Blick genommen werden.
Im Praktikum "Communicative Robots" wird die praktische Modellierung derartiger Interaktionsfähigkeiten auf Robotern thematisiert. In einem ersten Seminarteil werden die theoretischen Grundlagen für sprachbasierte Mensch–Maschine-Interaktion sowie relevante Phänomene und Mechanismen der Mensch–Mensch Kommunikation thematisiert. Im zweiten Praxisteil wird ein multimodales Sprachdialogsystem für den Spielzeugroboter "Tux Droid" implementiert, in einem einfachen Szenario angewendet und in einer Nutzerstudie evaluiert.
