Vom Klimawandel bis zum Rechtspopulismus, von der globalen Ungleichheit bis zum Verlust der Biodiversität, unsere Welt scheint am Rande einer umfassenden Katastrophe zu taumeln. Vielleicht besteht eine mögliche und notwendige Antwort aber nicht nur darin, die Katastrophe im Namen des Bestehenden zu verhindern, sondern das Katastrophische anders zu denken. Katastrophe bedeutete dann nicht das Heraufbeschwören eines apokalyptischen Szenarios, sondern das Kommen von etwas, das wir nicht in die uns zur Verfügung stehenden Formen des Wissens integrieren können. Dazu braucht es nicht nur andere inter- und transdisziplinäre Zugänge, die die disziplinäre Ordnung der Wissenschaften herausfordern, sondern eine Umarbeitung des wissenschaftlichen Wissens selbst. Im Anschluss an Isabelle Stengers ‚Intervention‘, ihrem Text „In Catastrophic Times“, dem das Seminar seinen Titel entlehnt, wollen wir nach Möglichkeiten suchen, nicht die Welt zu beschreiben, wie sie ist, sondern Entwürfe, Geschichten, Modelle zu erkunden, die an ihrem Anderswerden teilnehmen.
