230821 Englisch: Talking with Media: Conversation, Current Events and Media, level B2 and higher (S) (WiSe 2013/2014)

Contents, comment

We spend time everyday of our lives discussing current events, new inventions or discoveries, sharing hilarious video clips, exchanging reviews of films, restaurants and stores, and we do all of this on through media like Facebook, Youtube videos, and digital images - both on the internet or about it.

It is almost undeniable that media is now an essential to our lives, at least most of us. Taking this claim as the basis of the class, students will have the chance to integrate English into their discussions of “what’s going on” and practice using English as an everyday part of their lives in the exact way that media occupies the same space.

Accordingly, topics will reflect current events or even better the “news of now”. With the integration of media into every class, there is sure to never be a dull moment unless you’re sick and miss the class. During discussions, students will be given the chance to improve by receiving correction and instruction on problem language areas as they arise and being introduced to vocabulary related to the themes that wil be injected into the course both prescriptively and in response to need.
