SozialeBewegungen sind integrale Bestandteile von Gesellschaft, die überProtest auf die Veränderung von Gesellschaft abzielen. Siekönnen weder aus externen Verhältnissen abgeleitet werden,noch basieren sie auf kollektiven Identitäten die ontologischgegeben sind. Stattdessen muss die untersucht werden, wie sichBewegungen aus spezifischen Alltagskulturen heraus selbstinstituieren.
ImRahmen dieses Seminars sollen soziale Bewegungen in den Amerikas seitden 1960er Jahren bis heute behandelt werden. Im Rückgriff aufkulturell-politische Ansätze in der Bewegungsforschung sollenvor allem der Einfluss von Bewegungen auf die politische Kulturherausgearbeitet werden. Behandelt werden u.a. Frauenbewegung,Bürgerrechtsbewegung, Afroamerikanische Bewegungen, indigeneBewegungen, Stadtteilbewegungen, Ökologiebewegung und dieglobalisierungskritische Bewegung.
