This seminar will be taught by Mrs. Yaatsil Guevara González in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Andreas Zick.
This seminar seeks to facilitate a space for critical discussions, either theoretical or empirical, on the concepts of misrecognition and belonging from an interdisciplinary perspective, but mainly from disciplines such as anthropology, sociology, social psychology and educational sciences. The seminar seeks to problematize the concepts of misrecognition and belonging by deepen on the following questions: how misrecognition practices are experienced by minorities? How is the search of belongingness expressed among these populations? How minorities and majorities’ interactions materialized in the quotidian life? From an empirical basis, we will discuss, on the one hand, the experiences of misrecognition and belongingness of some minority groups in Europe such as Muslims or Roma people; and on the other hand, such experiences of irregularized Central American migrants in their transit through Mexico.
