300252 New trends in immigration to Germany: Characterisctics, actors and policies (Teil II) (LEH) (WiSe 2015/2016)

Contents, comment

Migration is a highly dynamic process and its patterns change over time. These developments depend on a variety of influencing factors. The research class aims to address questions with regard to these changes and focusses on characteristics, actors and policies in the German context. This research class is designed as a sequence over two semesters and students are obliged to participate in both to obtain their credit points.
The first sequence dealt with a) an introduction into different theoretical approaches, b) an insight into a concrete investigation related to the research class, c) an overview of qualitative research methods, c) the development of the research design.
During the summer break students conducted their fieldwork based on expert interviews in migration and respective policies.
The current seminar will start with a general overview of the first sequence. It is followed by an introduction into qualitative data analysis. This theoretical introduction is accompanied by an evaluation of the actual state-of-the-art of the students’ fieldwork. Based upon these insights, the qualitative data analysis will be achieved in the teams that also includes the writing up of the research results. Finally, results will be prepared to be presented to the group leading to students’ individual report as a final product of the research class.

Requirements for participation, required level

This is the second part of the research class which started in the summer term 2015. Only students who have participated in the first sequence of the research class can participate.
