Gotisch ist die älteste schriftlich überlieferte germanische Sprache. Daher hat sie für die Geschichte der germanischen Sprachen eine besondere Bedeutung. Das wichtigste Dokument in gotischer Sprache ist die Bibelübersetzung des Bischofs Wulfila aus dem 4. Jahrhundert. Gegenstand dieses Seminars ist die Struktur der gotischen Sprache und ihre Einordnung in die Geschichte der germanischen Sprachen im Allgemeinen.
