Die Broken-Window-Theorie ist ein klassischer Erklärungsansatz der Sozialwissenschaften, nach dem eine Umgebung, die den Eindruck von Regellosigkeit vermittelt (Broken-Window), deviantes Verhalten fördert. Vielfach werden diese und andere theoretische Überlegungen zu den Faktoren von prosozialem Verhalten im Allgemeinen im Rahmen experimenteller Forschungsdesigns empirisch getestet.

Die Empirische Praxis in den quantitativen Methoden ist eine anwendungsorientierte Veranstaltung, in der Inhalte der Vorlesung "Einführung in die quantitativen Methoden der empirischen Sozialforschung" in Forschungsprojekte von Studierenden übertragen werden. Dazu sollen Broken-Window-Experimente im universitären Kontext nachgebaut und umgesetzt werden. Der Fokus der Veranstaltung liegt auf der Vermittlung von Grundlagen experimenteller Forschung (randomized controlled trials) in den Sozialwissenschaften, der kreativen (Weiter)Entwicklung von Versuchsaufbauten sowie der praktischen Umsetzung der Datenerhebung.
