300251 Institutional change of state-market relations (MA: Politische Soziologie) (BS) (SoSe 2018)

Contents, comment

The seminar deals with different variants of institutional change along the state-market differentiation of modern societies. It is dedicated to different contractual, organisational, and regulatory modes of coupling and de-coupling politics and economy. It is the purpose of the seminar identifying the variants of communicative and organisational interpenetration of politics and economy. In order to discuss the interpenetration the concept of functional differentiation will be considered against concepts of institutional change in the tradition of actor centered institutionalism.
Topics to be discussed are
concepts of institutional change,
privatization, contracting-out, and procurement policy,
hybrid organizations and public private partnerships in service delivery (cyber security),
the end of corporatism and transnational business
lobbying and business interest groups
the transnational regulation of corporate taxes

MA and PhD student are welcome with a particular interest in the interpenetration of state and market. The current Luhmann guest professor Chris Thornhill will organize and chair one of the sessions (the end of corporatism and transnational business).
The seminar will be held in English or German depending on the attendance of international students.
