300031 Workshop Academic Working Methods and Techniques (WS) (WiSe 2014/2015)

Contents, comment

As an international student at Bielefeld University you may find that the style of teaching and learning as well as academic conventions are different from what you might be used to. For domestic students studying in English can be rewarding and challenging at the same time.

This class is designed for both groups of students who are on the International Track (MA Sociology) and who wish to enhance their academic working techniques. The seminar will be held in an interactive and learner-centered fashion and focus on topics such as written assignments (e.g. term papers), stylistic conventions and academic skills. Moreover it will look into communication issues with lecturers and supervisors. Participants will have ample opportunities to discuss and deal with selected aspects of academic culture, reflect on their own academic working style and explore ways of communicating effectively in those contexts which are relevant to their studies.
