Munira Jamal, M.A.

Intermediate Level Course 1: Thursdays from 10:00 – 11:30 (s.t.)
Consultation and individual feedback time from 11:30 – 12:15

Course Description
Students enrolled at the Faculty of “Gesundheitswissenschaften” who wish to develop their speaking proficiency and listening comprehension, but have not had the chance to attend a similar course in previous semesters are welcome to join this class. The course runs for two hours weekly (10 sessions) and is designed for both undergraduate and graduate students. Participants will put their language skills into practice through a range of meaningful activity-based, learner-centred tasks which will enable them to enhance their communicative competence, improve fluency, build confidence, and reduce anxiety. Depending on the specific needs of the participating students typical mistakes of native speakers of German will be dealt with, too. Some course time may also be spent on increasing the sensitivity of participants to cultural differences by addressing various aspects of communication from an intercultural perspective. Students will be encouraged to deal with a broad mix of health-related topics and encouraged to introduce subject areas in which they have a particular interest or knowledge. Particular emphasis will be placed on oral presentations for which students will be provided with useful phrases and vocabulary and ample practice time. Course members will learn how to deliver a well-structured brief presentation in English and present ideas and information clearly and confidently. Throughout the course students will receive supportive guidance as well as constructive feedback on their progress, performance, pronunciation, and grammar. Based on regular attendance and active participation attendees will be awarded a certificate of participation.
