Symbole, Rituale und Mythen begegnen uns im Alltag überall. So weit, so gut, prägen sie doch, paradigmatisch z.B. im Symbolischen Interaktionismus, unser Weltverständnis und führen zu einer ´Ordnung der Dinge` (Michel Foucault). In diesem Sinne sind sie Repräsentationen von Welt, die erst in ihrer Bedeutung einen erkennenden Zugriff auf Welt ermöglichen, erkenntnistheoretisch also im Sinne einer `Welt als Text`. Was aber, wenn Symbole, Rituale und Mythen nicht mehr als Repräsentationen von etwas fungieren, sondern lediglich `Inszenierungen des Scheins` (Thomas Meyer) darstellen, die Gegenstände also zugunsten ihrer symbolischen Repräsentation marginalisiert (oder gar überflüssig?) werden? Das Seminar widmet sich diesen Fragen in Form von Fallstudien zur Logik symbolisierter Politik in ihrer Verknüpfung mit medialen Wirklichkeitskonstruktionen.
