Der Expressionismus ist eine der wichtigen literarischen Bewegungen des 20. Jahrhunderts. Er stellt eine radikale Auseinandersetzung mit überkommenen Formen des Schreibens und Denkens dar und artikuliert in unterschiedlicher Weise das Bewußtsein einer Krise sowie die Suche nach neuen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten und gesellschaftspolitischer Erneuerung. Die expressionistische Lyrik vereinigt dabei Subjektivität, Pathos, Ekstase und Normverstoß mit traditionellen Formen. Die Veranstaltung führt in die Theorie und Geschichte der Lyrik des Expressionismus und beschäftigt sich mit zentralen lyrischen Motiven (Großstadt, Krieg, moderne Arbeitswelt usw.) anhand ausgewählter Gedichte von Alfred Lichtenstein, Jakob van Hoddis, Ernst Stadler, Gottfried Benn und Georg Trakl. Außerdem sollen die sozial- und kulturhistorischen Hintergründe expressionistischer Lyrik beleuchtet werden.
