Die Veranstaltung bietet einen systematischen Einstieg in die Philosophie der Biologie. Dies umfasst Fragen nach dem Verständnis von Evolution, Teleologie, Reduktionismus, Fitness sowie der Begriffe des Gens, der Funktion, der biologischen Information, des Organismus und des Lebens. Dabei soll auch die historische Genese einiger dieser Themenfelder angesprochen werden.

Eine Leistungsbescheinigung (BA-Studiengang) wird ausgestellt für ausgearbeitete Referate oder Essayaufgaben. Ein Leistungsnachweis (Magister- oder Lehramts-Studiengang) wird ausgestellt für eine Hausarbeit.

Philosophie ab 2. Studienjahr; Hörer anderer Fächer, speziell der Biologie, sind willkommen.
