300190 Bourdieu and Historical Analysis (Theory Class) (S) (SoSe 2024)

Contents, comment

The theory class is addressed to sociologists and historians alike and is designed as an introduction into the theory of Pierre Bourdieu. While mostly regarded as a theorist of social reproduction, Bourdieu’s concepts in fact offer much utility for the analysis of historical change. The course will discuss these concepts and demonstrate their relevance for historical analyses. Participants are encouraged to introduce data and material from their own PhD-projects to see what Bourdieusian perspectives might offer for their particular case studies and research questions.
