Unter Europa ist nicht immer und zu allen Zeiten das gleiche verstanden worden. Je nach Epoche und unter dem Einfluss der jeweils dominanten Deutungseliten wurden immer wieder andere Akzente gesetzt, 'neue' Traditionen entdeckt und 'gestiftet' und andere - jeweils epochenspezifische europäische Werte proklamiert. Europa wird konstruiert. Heute ebenso wie in der Zeit vor 1945.
Wie wurde Europa vor 1945 konstruiert und welche Brüche und Kontinuitäten lassen sich im deutschen Europa-Diskurs des mittleren 20. Jahrhunderts konstatieren? Diesen Fragen soll auf der Grundlage ausgewählter literarisch-politischer und kulturkritischer Texte von M. Boveri, F. Sieburg, K. Korn, G. Hocke, G. Wirsing, E. W. Eschmann, E. Vietta und W. Kiaulehn nachgegangen werden (zum Teil im Vergleich von Textfassungen, die vor 1945 entstanden und nach 1945 überarbeitet wurden).
Textgrundlage:
(1) Auszüge aus Carl Wege: Das "Neue Europa" 1933-1945. Deutsche Denkmuster des Europäischen (im Erscheinen) sowie (2) Texte der oben genannten Autoren, die zu Beginn des Semesters den Studierenden zur Verfügung gestellt werden.
