Das o.g. Werk dokumentiert den 'Paradigmawechsel' in der Systemtheorie von Niklas Luhmann von einer 'funktionalistischen Gesellschaftstheorie' hin zu einer 'Theorie selbstreferentieller Systeme'.
In dem Buch (von ca. 660 Seiten!) wird versucht, die begriffliche und erkenntnistheoretische Komplexität der Systemtheorie mit Hilfe der 'normalen' Sprache darzustellen (vgl. Klappentext). Anhand des Textes lässt sich die Entwickung der soziologischen Systemtheorie, ausgehend von der 'alteuropäischen' soziologischen Tradition, hin zu einem 'Superparadigma' recht gut verfolgen. Ausserdem werden die Verbindungslinien der Systemtheorie zu anderen Disziplinen (z.B. Kybernetik, Evolutionstheorie u.a.) deutlich.
In dem Lektürekurs sollen Kleingruppen jeweils 60 Seiten des Buches durcharbeiten und die im jeweiligen Textabschnitt behandelten Gundkonzepte und Thesen im Plenum präsentieren.Die Anschaffung des Buches (ca. 14 bis 18 Euro) wird empfohlen. Eine Liste der Sekundärliteratur wird in der ersten Sitzung vorgelegt.
