Lektürekurs: James Coleman, Grundlagen der Sozialtheorie Bd. 1. München 1995
James Coleman (1926 - 1995) gilt als einflussreicher Vertreter jenes soziologischen Paradigmas das man als "rational choice"-Theorie bezeichnet. In diesem Werk werden aus einer streng handlungstheoretischen Perspektive, wobei das rationale Verhalten der Akteure im Mittelpunkt steht, kollektive Phänomene und Systemeigenschaften beschrieben und erklärt. Hauptthemen sind die des sozialen Austauschs, der Entstehung von sozialen Normen und der sozialen Kapitalbildung. Theoretisch besonders interessant ist hierbei seine Behandlung des Mikro-Makro oder Emergenzproblems in der soziologischen Theoriebildung. Ein weiteres Verdienst des Buches ist die Begründung der "Problemintervention" (durch Politikberatung) auf der Basis der Erkenntnisse der Soziologie.
