Wenn wir vom Deutschen sprechen, meinen wir damit eine von ca. 7000 Sprachen, die derzeit global anzutreffen sind. Gleichzeitig fassen wir darunter eine Vielzahl regional, sozial und situativ verschiedener Varianten, die von den Sprechern verwendet werden. Diese Variante, so wie die einzelnen Sprachen, bilden Strukturen aus, in denen sie sich mehr oder weniger voneinander unterscheiden. Diese Strukturen stehen im Mittelpunkt der Veranstaltung. Von besonderem Interesse sind dabei die Universalien, die es in jeder Sprache gibt. Warum sind manche Strukturen sprachübergreifend zu finden und andere nicht? Welche Steuerungselemente können wir ausmachen, die für das Entstehen von bestimmten Strukturen relevant sind? Sind die Gemeinsamkeiten der Strukturen ein Zufall oder ein Resultat menschlicher Kognition? Diese Fragen sollen exemplarisch an einigen Phänomenbereichen aufgezeigt werden.
