Doing a PhD can be both rewarding and challenging. We develop skills, acquire, and produce knowledge but it is sometimes a lonely process. One might encounter different kinds of hardship along the way and not always have answers or solutions for them. With that in mind and based on our concerns, the doctoral representatives developed a BGHS Study/Research/Support Group.
The group aims to support each other, regardless of our research phase or topic. From peer review of articles, writing sections, and exchange of experiences, to bureaucratic process and, if you feel comfortable, more personal support. We want to build a community to make our path through the doctorate easy and, why not, more enjoyable.
The idea is to understand the group's demands and interests and organise sections based on them. The meeting would be scheduled based on our needs, but three general meetings are planned.
The first meeting is organizational, to share our wishes, expectations and needs with the group. We will divide into smaller groups, if necessary, and schedule the meetings based on the participants' availability.
The second meeting is a follow-up and adjustment, if needed and a closing meeting at the end of the semester for feedback.
The possibilities are great. It could be weekly or fortnightly reading/writing sections, monthly discussion sections, or specific dates for articles peer review. It will all depend on our needs.
The program aims to improve the research process and strengthen the BGHS community.
