Wenn ich das Wort "Äpfel" verwende, spreche ich über Äpfel (die Früchte); wenn ich das Wort "Äpfel" jedoch erwähne, spreche ich über "Äpfel" (das Wort). In den letzten beiden Sätzen habe ich das Wort "Äpfel'' dreimal erwähnt und einmal verwendet, erkennbar an den … na? Genau: Anführungsstrichen. Anführungsstriche haben sogenannte Aboutness-verschiebende Eigenschaften – um ein Wort herum gesetzt leisten Anführungsstriche, dass es nicht mehr um die eigentliche Bedeutung des Wortes geht, sondern um das Wort selbst. Aber wie funktionieren Anführungsstriche genau? Und welche Puzzles ergeben sich aus ihrer Existenz? (Bonusfragen, wenn wir dazu kommen: Wie werden Anführungsstriche in der Alltagssprache verwendet? Und was hat das mit der o.g. formal "korrekten" [Anführungsstriche!] Funktionsweise zu tun?)
In diesem Seminar lesen wir einige klassische Texte, die sich mit diesen Fragen auseinandersetzen; wir schauen uns aber auch einige besondere Anwendungen an, insbesondere aus dem Bereich der Literaturwissenschaft (z.B. Free Indirect Discourse).
