Die Lehrveranstaltung befasst sich mit der deutschsprachigen Kurzgeschichte als klassischem Unterrichtsgegenstand. Die literaturdidaktische Bedeutung der Kurzgeschichte liegt in der Gleichzeitigkeit von semantischer Dichte und thematischer Offenheit, von Textkürze und Maximalaussage (W. Ulrich), was intensive Themen-, Struktur-, Erzähl- und Kompositionsanalysen ermöglicht.
Zunächst werden Theorie und Geschichte der Kurzgeschichte sowie literaturtheoretische Aspekte der Formbestimmung der Kurzprosa erörtert. Anhand ausgewählter Kurzgeschichten von Aichinger, Böll, Borchert, Grass, Kaschnitz, Kunert, Seuren usw. werden dann Methoden des Textverstehens, mündliche, schriftliche und produktionsorientierte Arbeitsformen für den Literaturunterricht thematisiert.
