Die Vorlesung gibt einen systematischen Überblick über grundlegende Theorien der Erziehungswissenschaft. Historisch steht die Entwicklung von modernen Erziehungs- und Bildungsbegriffen von dem Neuhumanismus zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts, der Reformpädagogik zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts bis hin zur Gegenwart im Fokus. Berücksichtigt werden die zeit- und gesellschaftsgebunden Formen pädagogischen Denkens. Bei der Auseinandersetzung mit gegenwärtigen Bildungs- und Erziehungstheorien wird dieser Aspekt intensiviert und soll zugleich überleiten zu einer differenzierten und kritischen Perspektive auf die Vorstellung von Erziehung und Bildung.
