The first part of the seminar covers some of the module's core curriculum and will primarily deal with the historical evolution of modern system of world politics since the Peace of Westphalia. Students will discuss different perspectives of conceptualizing the content and evolution of world politics from different perspectives, ie IR, History, and Sociology. The second part of the semester will cover a semester-specific theme: technological change as a feature and driver of world politics. Students will learn different approaches to the study of technologies in world politics and will discuss the politics of technological change based on case studies ranging from the industrial revolution in the 19th century to the current “fourth industrial revolution” driven by digitalization, automatization and the development of artificial intelligences.
