285120 Quantum Mechanics II (V) (WiSe 2022/2023)

Contents, comment

The starting point for this course is basic quantum mechanics including the concept of operators, the uncertainty relation, the Schrödinger equation and solutions to simple problems, which were covered at the Theoretical Physics II lecture. After a
brief recap of these aspects, we discuss the interactions with electromagnetic fields and go into more details about perturbation theory. Time-dependent processes and elements of scattering theory are discussed in depth and a general treatment is given to symmetries in quantum mechanics. Finally the path integral formalism is introduced and an outlook towards quantum field theories is given.

Requirements for participation, required level

Prerequisites are Theoretical Physics I and II - classical mechanics, electrodynamics and introductory quantum mechanics.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
