230376 Another Gaze, a Different Depiction of Reality: Feminist Film in North America (S) (WiSe 2021/2022)

Contents, comment

This seminar examines North American feminist films from the 1950s to the present, with a focus on the evolution and development of the discourses, themes, techniques and groups behind the making of feminist films along the decades and the struggles -both the evident and the subtle- that such films narrate. Issues of gender, sexuality, race and ethnicity, motherhood, labor, and union struggle, will be kept in focus throughout. The film selection will allow the students to learn about different film genres and to examine questions relating to authorship, spectatorship, identity and women's place within North America's filmmaking history (Canada, USA and Mexico).
