Aphorismen sind überwiegend nichtfiktionale, literarische Texte mit oftmals philosophisch orientiertem Inhalt, die auf sprachlich und/oder gedanklich überraschende Weise z.B. ein Werturteil, eine Lebensweisheit oder eine persönliche Erkenntnis darbieten. Viele dieser häufig auf Allgemeingültigkeit zielenden, oft paradox dargebotenen und teilweise mit starker Ironie versetzten Kurztexte haben überdies einen mehr oder weniger stark hervortretenden selbstreferentiellen Bezug.
Die zahlreichen vage gehaltenen Bestimmungen der beiden obigen Sätze deuten bereits an, dass die genaue Definition von Aphorismen schwierig und ausbaufähig ist. Daher soll in diesem Seminar zunächst der Versuch unternommen werden, diese Gattung sowohl anhand der Betrachtung zahlreicher Aphorismen als auch mit Hilfe theoretischer Texte möglichst präzise zu beschreiben, um daran anknüpfend die Eigenheiten ausgewählter Aphoristiker herausarbeiten zu können.
Die Bereitschaft zur Übernahme eines Referats wird vorausgesetzt.
