Die national geführte Debatte um die Ergebnisse der PISA-Studien, aber auch anderer Large-Scale-Assessment-Studien, entfachte auch die Diskussion um die Bildungsaufgaben und -möglichkeiten im frühen Kindesalter (erneut). Im Zentrum dieser Auseinandersetzung stehen die Institution Kindergarten und ihre Pädagogik.
Im Seminar wird zunächst die nationale Bildungsdebatte auf der Grundlage der umfangreichen Literatur rekonstruiert. Im nächsten Schritt soll über den "nationalen Tellerrand" hinausgeschaut werden, indem aktuelle Bildungskonzepte für die frühe Förderung in anderen nationalen Kontexten erarbeitet werden. Diese elemtarpädagogischen Ansätze werden abschließend international vergleichend diskutiert.
