This content-based language course is designed for B.Sc. and M.Sc. students of chemistry.

The main focus of the course will be on training the reading comprehension and improving the ability to speak about scientific/academic topics. One major topic will be presentations in English, participants will be expected to give short presentations on a scientific topic of their choice.

Further we will be looking at functional language for discussing and presenting as well as learning strategies to enhance the participants’ scientific vocabulary, as well as, listening comprehension. Grammar topics will be covered as necessary for the group.

Class language is English (Level B2+ of the Common European Framework). The course includes all four skills of English (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).

Mindestens 6 Jahre Schulenglisch werden vorausgesetzt.

Students participating regularly and handing in homework, and giving two presentations (one long and one short) will be awarded 3 ECTS.
