Der Begriff des "epischen Dramas" oder auch "epischen Theaters" scheint widersprüchlich, soll das Drama doch eigentlich dramatisch und eben nicht episch sein. Was Bertolt Brecht, der den Begriff des "epischen Theaters" geprägt hat, mit dieser Wendung gemeint hat, worauf sein Konzept eines nacharistotelischen Dramas beruht und wie dieses epische Drama funktioniert, wollen wir uns im Laufe des Semesters am Beispiel ausgewählter Dramen und poetologischer Texte von Bertolt Brecht gemeinsam erarbeiten. Das Seminar möchte insofern in das Werk eines der wichtigsten deutschsprachigen Dramatiker des 20. Jahrhunderts einführen, dessen Texte immer noch sowohl in der Schule als auch auf den Bühnen Gegenstand sind. Politische Fragen werden uns in unserer Diskussion der dramatischen Texte ebenso begegnen wie poetologische Fragen nach der Wirkung und dem Aufbau dramatischer Texte.

Erwartet wird die regelmäßige Teilnahme an den Seminarsitzungen und die Bereitschaft, sich an der Seminardiskussion aktiv zu beteiligen.
Für eine Studienleistung wird eine kürzere, schriftliche Arbeit gefordert, für eine benotete Prüfungsleistung eine Hausarbeit. Näheres hierzu wird in der ersten Seminarsitzung bekannt gegeben.
