Gegenstand der Seminararbeit ist der Sonderpädagoge Karl Tornow, der die Entwicklung der Sonderschule und der Sonderpädagogik in der NS-Zeit wesentlich mitgeprägt hat. Im Seminar werden unterschiedliche Sichtweisen Tornows dargestellt und Einblicke in seine wichtigsten Schriften in der NS-Zeit gegeben, die z.T. nach der NS-Zeit neu aufgelegt worden sind. Zudem findet eine Auseinandersetzung mit den gesetzlichen Bestimmungen für die Zwangssterilisation, mit einem Propagandafilm des Rassenpolitischen Amtes der NSDAP und der Rolle der Sonderschule in diesem Zusammenhang statt.
Als Arbeitsformen sind Plenumsdiskussionen, Partner- und Kleingruppenarbeit vorgesehen.
In einem Reader, der am ersten Seminartag verkauft wird, werden auch öffentlich nicht zugängliche Texte zur Verfügung gestellt. Für die aktive Teilnahme ist ein intensives Durcharbeiten aller Readertexte und ihre mündliche Kurzdarstellung im Seminar bzw. ihre kurze schriftliche Zusammenfassung mit Kommentar erforderlich.
