Dieses Buch gilt als Klassiker der modernen Soziologie. In ihm wird versucht, eine Grundfrage der Soziologie (wie entsteht soziale Ungleichheit?) neu zu thematisieren - eingedenk des Zusammenbruchs der marxistischen Klassentheorie.
Ein weiteres ehrgeiziges Ziel des Werkes ist der Versuch, handlungstheoretische (mikro) und gesamtgesellschaftliche (makro) Theorien miteinander zu verbinden.
Der Kurs ist ein 'Lesekurs' anhand von Fragen, die der Veranstalter für jedes Kapitel vorgibt.
Vertiefende Fragen sollten durch Referate des Veranstalters und der Studierenden behandelt werden.
Es besteht, die Möglichkeit, sowohl einen AT-Schein (durch Vorstellung eines Kapitels im Plenum) als auch einen 'qualifizierten 6er Nachweis' (Durch Einzel- oder Gruppenreferat) zu erwerben.
Das Buch gibt es im Internet für ca. 10 Euro.
