This course will address the role of creativity for social action, knowledge transfer, and alternative forms of knowledge production. The program will include an obligatory all-day excursion to the Museum Ludwig, Heinrich-Böll-Platz, 50667 Köln (Cologne) on Sunday June 15, 2025. All participants will meet at 11 am at the entrance to the Museum. The visit and workshop in the museum will end at 6 pm. Two exhibits will be at the center of our attention. Francis Alÿs – Kids Take Over (April 12 – August 3 2025) and Street Photography: Lee Friedlander, Garry Winogrand, Joseph Rodríguez (May 3 – October 12 2025). The course requirement includes the creation of a portfolio or project related to creativity and knowledge transfer (in relation to public life and space). The class will study and analyze ekphrastic pieces, short films, and photography (related to street art). The discussion will address in how far creative play, creativity, and creative knowledge production may impact our educational life, (trans-) cultural communication, and social interaction. Students can use their student ticket for train travel to Cologne and back. Please note that all students will have to pay the entrance fee to see the exhibitions in the Museum Ludwig. The portfolio or project for class requirements needs to be uploaded in the ekvv latest by September 30, 2025 (Studienleistung).
