This seminar examines U.S. American feminist films from the 1950s to the present, with a focus on the evolution and development of the discourses, themes, techniques and groups behind the making of feminist films along the decades and the struggles -both the evident and the subtle- that such films narrate. Issues of gender, sexuality, race and ethnicity, motherhood, labor and union struggle, will be kept in focus throughout. The film selection will allow the students to view a variety of movies about women -many of them also by women-, and to examine questions relating to authorship, spectatorship, identity and women's place within the filmmaking history in the U.S
