This is the first part of a two-semester seminar on applied research methods (“Lehrforschung”). Students will be made familiar with the fundamental steps of developing and working on a research question in the context of life course and social stratification analysis. The focus this semester will be on a) defining a research question, b) familiarization with data (SOEP), and c) basic and advanced techniques of statistical data analysis – in particular multilevel models and longitudinal models.

The course will be taught in English.

Requirements for participation, required level

Basic knowledge of statistics (e.g. linear regression) and some experience with Stata.
