This seminar is specifically aimed at those planning to teach at secondary school level: Hauptschule, Realschule, Sekundarschule, Gymnasium or Gesamtschule. The course offers a brief survey of methods of teaching English as a foreign language and introduces major temporary approaches as well as some less mainstream approaches. There will also be a brief, practically-orientated introduction to assessment at secondary level.
The seminar will take place in hybrid format - in the classroom and simultaneously via Zoom. The material for the sessions will be uploaded in the Moodle course.
This seminar is specifically aimed at those planning to teach at secondary level. Please note that students who started their degrees in or after 2023, or for some other reason are studying in the NEW FSB, have to have passed the Language Proficiency Test before taking Profile Module 1 seminars.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
Participants will give group presentations, most of them involving micro-teaching sequences, to complete the seminar requirements: everyone will also be expected to take part in the student-generated Methods Challenge near the end of the semester.
