Demokratie ist ein schillernder Begriff, der in aktuellen Debatten, aber auch in der politiktheoretischen Forschung immer wieder zentraler Bezugspunkt ist. Aber was ist eigentlich damit gemeint, wenn unterschiedliche Autor*innen von Demokratie sprechen?
Im Seminar soll ein Überblick über verschiedene Strömungen der (normativen) modernen Demokratietheorien gegeben werden, von liberalen, über republikanische und kommunitaristische Theorien bis hin zu deliberativen, agonalen und radikalen sowie feministischen und post-/de-kolonialen Perspektiven. Ziel ist zentrale Ideen und Konzepte der unterschiedlichen Theoretisierungen von Demokratie kritisch zu diskutieren und miteinander in Bezug zu setzen. Wo sind Stärken und Schwächen der einzelnen Ansätze? Wo Besonderheiten und Differenzen?
Als Studienleistung ist das (einmalige) Verfassen eines Response Papers (ca. 3 Seiten) vorgesehen zu dem jeweiligen Text der Sitzung, welches dann als Grundlage für die Diskussion im Seminar dienen soll. Prüfungsleistung ist das Verfassen einer Hausarbeit nach der jeweiligen Prüfungsordnung.
