Die Historische Orientierung bietet eine Einführung in ausgewählte Probleme der deutschen Geschichte vom späten 18. Jahrhundert bis zur Gegenwart. Die Veranstaltung ist keine Vorlesung im klassischen Sinne. Stattdessen werden gemeinsam Quellen und Sekundärtexte zu spezifischen Aspekten gelesen und diskutiert, ergänzt durch kurze Einführungen oder Ergänzungen der Veranstalterin. Schwerpunkte liegen u. a. auf der Frage von Inklusions- und Exklusionsprozessen in der deutschen Geschichte in der Moderne, der Rolle von Krieg im Selbstverständnis der deutschen Gesellschaft sowie der Einordnung der deutschen Geschichte in den globalen Zusammenhang.
