230347 Savouring Disaster: The History of Dystopian Fiction (S) (WiSe 2022/2023)

This class will engage with the theory and history of Dystopia. We will engage with a wide selection of relevant primary and secondary texts from different periods and genres starting with Thomas Morus's Utopia (1516), 'Mary Shelley's The Last Man (1826), and H.G. Wells' The Time Machine (1895).

Students need to have completed BM2 (including the module paper)

Literaturangaben

The class will come with a heavy reading load of both primary and secondary texts.
All shorter texts will be made available via the EKVV.

In addition, please acquire copies of the following novels:

Aldous Huxley, Brave New World ( 1932)
George Orwell, 1984 (1949)
Margaret Atwood, Oryx and Crake (2003)
