Platons zentrale Schrift zur Ethik ist der Dialog "Philebos". Seine Bedeutung liegt in der Festlegung der Grundfrage der Ethik auf die Frage nach dem Guten und der Beziehung der Lust zum höchsten Gut und in der Anwendung ausgefeilter rationaler Instrumente und Methoden zur Lösung der ethischen Probleme. Aufgabe des Seminars ist die Interpretation des Textes und die kritische Diskussion mit Blick auf die spätere Entwicklung der von Platon auf den Weg gebrachten philosophischen Ethik in Altertum und Neuzeit.

Bereitschaft zur Übernahme eines Referats, in dem ein Textabschnitt vorbereitend interpretiert wird.

Bibliography

Die Literatur wird in der Veranstaltung vorgestellt und besprochen. Zur Vorbereitung wird empfohlen: Gisela Striker, "Greek ethics and moral theory", in: G. S., Essays on Hellenistic Epistemology and Ethics (Cambridge 1996), 169-182.
