Nach einer vorbereitenden Diskussion der wichtigsten Ritualkonzepte (Linguistik, Kulturwissenschaft, Humanethologie, Soziologie, Religionswissenschaft) wird es im Seminar um drei Fragenkomplexe gehen:

1. Inwieweit ist Sprache/Sprechen das Ergebnis ritueller Interaktionen?
2. Welche Kommunikationssequenzen sind ritualisiert bzw. enthalten rituelle Elemente?
3. Welche linguistisch beschreibbaren Eigenschaften haben konkrete Exemplare ritueller Kommunikation?
Die Beantwortung der dritten Frage wird sich auf formelhaftes Sprechen (Stereotype) ebenso beziehen wie auf Interaktionsrituale (Höflichkeit) und auf komplexe Arrangements (z.B. Gottesdienst).
