Ausgehend von der Situation in spätarchaischer Zeit (Reformen Solons, Aristokratie) soll die Entwicklung der Institutionen athenischer Demokratie nachvollzogen werden. Neben den wichtigen Entwicklungsschritten (Kleisthenes, Ephialtes, Peloponnesischer Krieg, Eubulos/Lykurg) soll die Praxis der Institutionen im Mittelpunkt stehen: Wie nahm der Bürger seine Rechte wahr? Welche Handlungsspielräume gab es? Welche Rituale festigten die Identität der Athener? Die Verhältnisse im 5. und 4. Jhd. v. Chr. werden im Mittelpunkt stehen
