Ein Ziel moderner biologischer Forschung ist das Verständnis von Organismen in ihrer Gesamtheit. Um ein integriertes Bild aller regulatorischen Prozesse zu erhalten, werden zur Zeit alle Ebenen vom Gen bis zu dessen Funktion intensiv untersucht. Ausgehend vom Genom eines Organismus werden die Genexpression (Transkriptomik), die Proteine samt ihrer Modifikationen (Proteomik) und die Veränderungen des Stoffwechsels (Metabolomik) studiert. Die Vorlesung stellt etablierte wie neue und sehr aktuelle Methoden der Genomforschung vor. Folgende Schwerpunkte sind vorgesehen: Genom- und Transkriptomsequenzierung, Microarrayanalyse der genomweiten Transkription, immunologische Methoden, massenspektrometrische Analyse von Proteomen und Metabolomen, bildgebende Verfahren der Massenspektrometrie zur Analyse von Geweben.
