Die Vorlesung gliedert sich in drei Teile: Der erste Teil ist den Prozessen und Bedingungen des Erstspracherwerbs gewidmet. Dabei wird ein besonderer Fokus auf weitere kognitive Modalitäten (wie Gestik) gerichtet, die die Lernprozesse tragen und unterstützen. Ziel ist es, Spracherwerb als einen multimodalen Lernprozess darzustellen. Der Erwerb kommunikativer Fähigkeiten im Rahmen einer Weiterbildung wird im Hinblick auf die Unterschiede in den Lernprozessen behandelt. Hierbei soll diskutiert werden, wie anders Lernen im Erwachsenenalter verläuft. Schließlich soll der dritte Bereich die Rolle der Sprache für das Erlernen anderer grundlegenden kognitiven Fähigkeiten (wie etwa Kategorisierung oder das Kausalitätsverständnis) verdeutlichen. Dieser Beitrag wird sich auf sprachvergleichende Studien stützen.
Als Grundlage für diese Vorlesung werden verschiedene, vor allem englischsprachige,
Studien präsentiert und diskutiert.
