Why is teaching poetry so difficult, provoking the above official direction? This class offers a survey of possible techniques seeking to take away the sting from poetry analysis, based on material compiled in Arno Löffler/Eberhard Späth’s anthology /English Poetry/. Apart from communicating insight into the different forms and functions of poetry, you will particularly discuss, rehearse and compare different methodical approaches to poetry, and consider possible ways to plan and organize thematic units and individual classroom sessions.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
