Die Veranstaltung möchte Anfängern, aber auch Vorgerückten die historische Tiefendimension ihres Faches vermitteln. Sie behandelt die Entwicklung, die die einzelnen Institute des Zivilrechts auf der Grundlage des im Mittelalter auf dem europäischen Kontinent rezipierten römischen Rechts bis in die Gegenwart genommen haben. Damit geht es sowohl um die Vorgeschichte des BGB als auch um die Geschichte des Privatrechts unter dem BGB und damit um juristische Zeitgeschichte. Die Einbeziehung ausländischer Rechte ist selbstverständlich, denn Rechtsgeschichte ist seit jeher übernational. Juristische Allgemeinbildung ist unabdingbar, um in der zunehmenden Konkurrenz mit englischen, französischen und anderen europäischen Juristen bestehen zu können.
Sprachkenntnisse sind nicht erforderlich.
