Die Veranstaltung bietet eine Einführung in verschiedene Bereiche der Migrationsforschung, die demographisch relevant sind. Es werden theoretische und methodische Ansätze zur Analyse von Migrationsprozessen vorgestellt. Die Ansätze werden im Hinblick auf aktuelle Entwicklungen internationaler und nationaler Wanderungsströme diskutiert. In diesem Zusammenhang stehen soziodemographische Aspekte der Migration im Vordergrund. Die Veranstaltung umfaßt vier Blöcke: Grundlagen, empirisch deskriptive Analysen der Migration, theoretische Ansätze und Modelle, formale Wanderungsstatistik.
