Die Zwangsvollstreckung dient der Durchsetzung der Ansprüche eines Gläubigers gegen einen Schuldner, zu deren Erfüllung er im Zivilprozess (Erkenntnisverfahren) verurteilt worden ist. Sie findet in einem hiervon getrenntem besonderen Verfahren auf Betreiben des Gläubigers statt.
Die sogenannte Einzelvollstreckung ist im 8. Buch der ZPO bzw. im Zwangsversteigerungsgesetz geregelt. Hiermit wird sich die Veranstaltung in erster Linie befassen. Sie will aber auch in die Gesamtvollstreckung, also das Insolvenzrecht einführen, womit das Vermögen des zahlungsunfähigen Schuldners insgesamt erfasst werden kann, um eine gleichmäßige Befriedigung seiner Gläubiger zu erreichen.
