231092 The Feminist Movement Today (StGr) (WiSe 2021/2022)

Contents, comment

In this study group, we will read Florence Given's "Women Don’t Owe You Pretty”(2020) and selected parts of Caroline Criado Perez's "Invisible Women. Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men" (2019). We will draw too on Redfern and Aune's "Reclaiming the F Word: Feminism Today" (2013) and other sources to define the term feminism, discuss the topic of second-wave feminism, talk about current events such as the abortion laws in Texas or the “Me too” movement and further topics proposed by the group. This is not a group for participants deeply versed in gender studies, but a starting point for exploring and discussing feminism today. A further goal is for us, the participants, to get to know each other despite the online format we have all had to use for the last three semesters, and to become more confident in speaking English in focussed discussion and debate with student peers. Of course, this study group is not only meant to be for women, but for everyone!
