Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach (1830-1916) gehört zu den bedeutendsten Erzählern des Realismus. Ihrem facettenreichen Werk – und der Gattung der Novelle als Kernstück realistischen Erzählens – wollen wir uns zum einen über close reading, zum anderen über die analytische Lektüre der Forschungsliteratur annähern. In den Blick kommen neben bekannten Texten wie Er laßt die Hand küssen oder Der Kreisphysikus z.B. auch die selten behandelten Humoresken Die Visite oder Eine dumme Geschichte.
